National Day of Prayer Breakfast

Dave Dravecky is an author, speaker, encourager, cancer survivor, and former pitcher for the San Francisco Giants. A player in Major League Baseball from 1982-1989, Dave experienced one of the greatest comebacks in the history of baseball during a viscous fight with cancer in his pitching arm before he threw “the pitch heard around the world” as his arm split in two mid-throw. Faced with the choice of surrendering his dream of professional baseball or risking his long-term health indefinitely, Dave made the brave decision to have his pitching arm amputated, permanently closing the door to his career as a pitcher and opening wide the opportunity to bring hope to others in the midst of suffering. Today, Dave travels across the country sharing his story of healing and redemption. Speaking on a variety of subjects including teamwork, perseverance, and self-worth, he emphasizes above all the importance of unity and relationships with others as a cornerstone of his message. Dave describes his story as “one of finding hope, courage and perseverance in the midst of dark and overwhelming uncertainty,” and looks forward to the opportunity to share his perspective on overcoming struggle at this year’s National Day of Prayer Breakfast.
